Ebola don go, leh we make Salone grow!

The second phase of the the President’s Recovery Priorities – the Government of Sierra Leone’s plan to boost the economy post Ebola and post the iron ore price crash - was launched in Magburaka on 20 June 2016.

At the event, His Excellency, Dr Ernest Bai Koroma, the President of Sierra Leone outlined the recovery process and stressed its importance to Sierra Leone’s immediate and future social stability and economic growth, saying: “We are here today not just to launch a set of actions that my government will be responsible for delivering, but to launch a new way of working - amongst ourselves, within government and across MDAs, with our development partners, with the private sector, and with all of you, the citizens of Sierra Leone.

“My Government’s specific priorities remain Education, Health, Social Protection and the Private Sector. To these, I have added Energy, Water and Governance. Our plans for progress in these areas have the potential to create visible change in Sierra Leone and set the country on the path towards sustainable and inclusive prosperity for everyone.”

Attending the launch event in support of the President’s Recovery Priorities process were Sierra Leone’s Government ministers and representatives, Paramount Chiefs and District Chairmen as well as the diplomatic community.

Messages of support for the delivery process came from development partners including the African Development Bank, DFID, GIZ, the US Government, the Irish Government, the UN, Japan International Cooperation Agency, the World Bank and the EU.

Saidu Conton-Sesay, the President’s Chief of Staff is leading the team responsible for coordinating the process. He emphasised the collaborative and consultative nature of the delivery process. “The experience and expertise of 11 ministries, departments and agencies, the advice and experience of district chairs, traditional and community leaders, the support of development partners, the delivery expertise of national and international implementing partners and the lessons emerging from an independent process of evaluation, have been brought together in a recovery plan which has the potential to deliver significant benefits to the citizens and the economy of Sierra Leone.”

The President’s Recovery Priorities encompass 13 specific goals which will deliver better healthcare, improved education, a growing private sector within an enabling business environment, protection for the most vulnerable in society and improved utility infrastructure which will increase access to power, water and waste management services. Full details of the initiatives included will be gradually uploaded on our website - www.presidentsrecoverypriorities.gov.sl
